Q: HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER?
A: The transmission fluid should be changed per manufactures recommended, although Custom Trans, Inc. recommends changing the filter and fluid at 35,000 miles for regular use, and 25,000 for heavy use such as towing, delivery vehicles, police, taxi, buses and limo’s.

Q: HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED MY TRANSMISSION REBUILT?
A: There are obvious reasons such as extremely burn fluid, loss of forward or reverse. There are also many symptoms in newer transmission that may make one think the transmission needs rebuilt, but really only needs to be repaired, older transmissions were pretty much self-contained, but the newer transmissions are mainly controlled by computers. Computer control systems can cause symptoms that may lead you to believe that you are faced with a transmission rebuild, but in reality the problem may only be a sensor or a solenoid which usually is far less expensive to repair.

Q: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO REBUILD MY TRANSMISSION?
A: Today’s transmissions are very complex in comparison to what it was years ago, the problems with today’s transmissions is that the failures tend to vary quite a bit making the cost of  repairs vary quite a bit as well. Q: WHAT TYPE OF FLUID SHOULD I USE IN MY TRANSMISSION?
A: Transmission today use many different transmission fluids, it is very important to put in the proper fluids or transmission failure may result. Custom Trans, inc. has all the information and specifications on which fluid your transmission will take.

Q: HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET MY TRANSMISSION REPAIRED OR REBUILT?
A: Most transmission rebuilds can be completed within 3 working days.

Q: WHAT ARE THE SHOP HOURS?
A: Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm.

Q: WHAT DO I DO IF IM BROKEN DOWN AFTER HOURS?
A: Call 216-529-3320 for after hours towing, this is Kufner towing and they will pick up your vehicle and bring it to our shop, you don’t have to pay them they will bill us. If you have any after hours service question you can leave a message at 216-252-2100 any time after hours and your call will be returned as soon as possible.

Q: DO YOU HAVE A NIGHT DROP OFF?
A: yes you can drop your vehicle off 24 hrs a day 7 days a week and drop the key in the key drop.

Q: DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY VEHICLE CHECKED OUT OR REPAIRED?
A: when you drop off your vehicle an appointment is not necessary but would allow us to be prepared so we can service you quicker. If you plan on waiting for your service we do require an appointment.

Q: WHAT IS THE WARRANTY ON A REBUILT TRANSMISSION, DIFFERENTIAL OR TRANSFER CASE?
A: we offer a 24 months or 24,000 miles, limited warranty on all our transmissions, differentials and transfer cases.

Q: DOES CUSTOM TRANS, INC. OFFER TOWING?
A: yes we offer free local towing with major repairs. We also offer competitive towing rates for minor services.

Q: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST FOR AN ESTIMATE FOR TRANSMISSION REPAIRS?
A: Most basic estimates on transmission repairs are free of charge. Some estimates may require billable diagnostic time to complete a proper estimate, you will be contacted for your approval should this be the case.

Q: WHY DO TOADAY’S TRANSMISSIONS COST MORE TO REBUILD?
A: Today’s transmissions are a lot more complex than years ago. They generally are controlled by computers which creates many new electronic controlled parts within the transmission. These parts are things like shift solenoids, pressure manifolds, electronic pressure control solenoids, electronic governors and speed sensors which are generally wear parts that need to be replaced during an overhaul, adding hundreds of dollars to some transmission rebuilds. Today’s transmissions also have many more gears, some 4, 5 or 6 speed and fuel saving lock-up torque converters which drive up the number of parts needed to properly rebuild today’s transmissions. The average time to remove, rebuild and reinstall a transmission in today’s vehicles has almost tripled also increasing the cost of labor to do the repair.

Q: CAN MY TRANSMISSION BE DIAGNOSED OVER THE PHONE?
A: In today’ transmissions this is almost impossible without connecting into the transmission’s electronic control system. These systems store trouble codes that can sometimes give us very accurate information to diagnose the problem. This service is free of charge in most cases, but does require us to have the vehicle at our shop to do this.

Q: DO YOU HAVE FINANCING FOR REPAIRS?
A: There is no doubt that transmissions today and major repairs can be major investment and usually come unexpected. We do offer 6 months same as cash to qualified customers to help with these unexpected repairs.
