Custom Trans Inc. was founded in September of 1989 by Chris Herrmann and Jim Carroll. After working in the evenings on transmissions at home in a 600 square foot garage, the duo decided to open a full-time shop.
Both Chris and Jim had full-time jobs when they then moved into a 2400 square foot building, which forced them to leave their jobs behind for a better business opportunity. Once in the new facility, which was behind a photo studio at 3322 Broadview Road, Herrmann and Carroll wanted to raise the standards of quality for their customers. These standards were a departure from the shops they worked for in the past.
The newly formed Custom Trans, Inc. was an instant success and grew to outgrow the current location. It was time to expand the successful, 12-16 hour day business by aquiring the front photo studio.
By completing the deal to aquire the front photo studio, the size of the combined buildings grew to a total of 5600 square feet. The extra room was quickly filled and in 1994 Custom Trans, Inc. was moved to it’s current facility on Chatfield Avenue.
The demand from satisfied customers had allowed Chris and Jim to be one of the few Cleveland area facilities that offer differential rebuilding. Currently, the shop has capabilities to lift as much as 28,000 pounds making service on motor homes, fire trucks, buses, and other large vehicles possible.
Due to repeated requests, Custom Trans, Inc. now offers a full service area handling tires, brakes, alignment, shocks, and other general maintenance items which makes them a full service facility. A partnership with BG Products furthers the shop to offer essential factory scheduled maintenance services that effectively remove harmful deposits, which accumulate on the inner surfaces and in the fluid systems of your car. We provide complete BG services.
Chris and Jim are always looking for better ways to serve their customers. Providing and continuing to take a daily active part in quality is what makes Custom Trans, Inc. a success.
